Spotted in: Sunset, SF
Occupation: Copywriter for Gap Online, New Mom
What are you up to today?
I was just at a baby shower. I live in the east bay—in the Oakland, Temescal area—but I used to live in SF. I lived in the Mission for years, Russian Hill at one point, Noe Valley—so all over.
I was wondering what the cupcake was!
It's a little baby bottle that's blue. She's having a boy. I'm bringing this home for my partner.
The flowers with it are really pretty!
Yeah, they were making wreaths and I didn't make a wreath because I was kind of chatting and lazy so I made a little mini bouquet, instead.
So you were in SF before—what drew you to the east bay?
I lived in the Mission last in SF, so now I'm in the east bay just because we found a bigger place.
How are you liking Temescal?
I'm liking it, it's great! So I work in downtown San Francisco and commute. I'm on maternity leave right now.
Congratulations!
Thanks!
And where do you work in SF?
I'm a copywriter for Gap online.
What brought you to that industry?
I studied journalism in college, which was a long time ago, but I've always been into fashion and worked in boutiques for years. And I had the writing background, so they just sort of married.
Have you been doing that for a while?
Off and on for a while now. I think 2006 was my first copy job. But I've worked in boutiques and had a vintage shop at one point, too.
Was that here in SF?
No, that was in Auburn, CA. I moved away for a couple of years.
So do you go home a lot to visit?
I do. My parents are still there and the drive from Oakland is about a two hour drive without traffic. So it's nice to be close to them. And I have a child now so we'll be there more often.
Any interesting developments with being a new mom and pregnancy?
And clothing? Well, I'm a nursing mother so having a shirt that has buttons or a v-neck is really important right now. I never even thought about that. And with my maternity style, I really wore a lot of loose things beforehand. I think tunics and vintage tops have always been in my wardrobe so I worked with a lot of things that I had.
You're on maternity leave now. How long has it been?
12 weeks. She's at home with her dad, so it's a little break for me right now.
I also wanted to ask you about what you're wearing! It's just a fun combo.
Let's see . . . this is a vintage dress I've had since I think 2005 or so. This sweater is vintage. The boots are local—Freda Salvador. They normally have a little hardware that I took off, so they're just plain. These leggings are covered in food now, but they're kind of a loose legging, so I've just layered it up. I think this is a Chan Luu scarf that I've had for years. So it's all a little high-low.
And where are the leggings from?
These are Free People.
I like how they're loose and textured!
Yeah, it's a random combo.
What do you like most about what you do?
Well right now my job is kind of being a mom, so Louise is my daughter and I just I love her. I never knew how much I would love having a baby, but she's amazing.
What would you say is your passion?
I'm still trying to figure that out. I've always loved clothing and getting dressed and finding hidden gems. I think the chaos that unfolds in your own wardrobe is fun too.
In what way?
In the morning, just getting ready!
Just throwing something together and going, whoa?
Yes! So when you're pregnant you wear only a specific amount of clothing, and so today I had an event to go to and I just ended up finding an old dress I hadn't worn in a while. So you kind of get this little rebirth of something you've had for a while.
